Upon picturing a bride, the image in one’s head is that of grace and beauty. Wearing a gown of silk, or maybe chiffon, the American bride dons her white dress to meet the man of her dreams. However, based on a quick look at current bridal trends, it appears as though the pure look of innocence is no longer flying.
The Bridal Fashion Show of New York is famous for showcasing new trends. Famous designers like Marchesa, Reem Acra, and Vera Wang flash their avant-garde looks. The new movement nowadays has been established, and it’s cause for hot debate among the fashion community.
See-through gowns with bare midriffs, cut open backs, and deep v-necks were premiered at the last Bridal Week. For many this may come as a shock, however others who have been watching the changing trend are not surprised. In the heat of TLC’s Say Yes To The Dress show, more people are airing on the side of sexy when choosing their gowns.
Is this change of design cause for fainting, or is it a symbol of feminine empowerment? One thing is for certain, tradition is losing its foothold in the American wedding. Fashion changes so rapidly that one can only speculate where the bridal industry will dare to go next.
