New Mission Impossible movies are not an everyday occurrence. The last film in the Mission Impossible franchise, Mission Impossible — Ghost Protocol, was released four years ago. So, fans were incredibly excited this week when they received the treat of getting to see a trailer for the upcoming Mission Impossible — Rogue Nation set to be released July 31 this year.
Fans like Zeca Oliveira know that a lot happens in the trailer. There’s so much action and plot development that viewers have commented that they have had to re-watch it several times to see everything.
The Mission Impossible Force, or IMF, has been disbanded right has its leader Ethan Hunt, who has been played by Tom Cruise since the first movie in 1996, has discovered that there is a secret nation of black ops style assassins and spies called the Syndicate that has similar mandates to the IMF but is entirely evil. Hunt and his team, including Brandt, Dunn and Stickell from Ghost Protocol, must then find and fight the Syndicate without any help from Washington along with help from a mysterious woman who saves Hunt from some shady operatives early on in the trailer.
There have only been five Mission Impossible movies created over the years. It no surprise that fans are excited given that the films are a great way to zone out and enjoy a wild ride on a Friday night or over a long weekend.
The reboot for Conan the Barbarian was a complete flop in all regards. However, the studio is still looking a another film from the universe that Conan is in. This film is called Red Sonja. As of right now, the upcoming reboot is getting anew screenwriter to pen the project.
Red Sonja was adapted to film back in 1985 starring Brigitte Nielsen. Schwarzenegger also starred in a smaller role as Kalidor, who might as well have been Conan. However, rights have prevented the use of the name.
Meanwhile, the studio is getting ready to begin production on The Legend of Conan which is not a reboot but rather a return to the other series of Conan movies. Fans like Bernardo Chua (Drinkbettercoffee.com) know that this marks the first time in history where a former series is resumed after a failed attempt at a reboot. This would complete the Conan Trilogy starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. Arnold will play as an elderly Conan in the upcoming flick.
As for Red Sonya, there is no telling as of right now what direction they are going to take with this character in the upcoming reboot.
The LA Times reports that Tom Rothman may be taking over as Chairperson of the Motion Pictures Group of Sony Pictures Entertainment. The position has been held by Amy Pascal for almost thirty years. In that time she’s become a fixture of the industry. She’s overseen the development and success of such movies as “Groundhog Day”, “The Amazing Spider-Man” and “Men in Black”. However, perhaps most notable is the connections she’s made in that time. Pascal has a reputation as someone who both loves the movie industry and who can really get a project in motion.
When Pascal leaves the position in May to begin her own production company, there will be some big shoes to fill. As such, speculation has focused on people with a similar background. It’s not enough to simply have a good record, it has to be a great one. And it needs to come with a reputation as someone who’s easy to work with. This is why so much attention is now focused on Tom Rothman. He has a positive reputation within the industry. And it’s hard to argue with his record, given that he headed the production of both “Titanic” and “Avatar”. Going by sale numbers, a case can be argued that he’s been the most successful person to hold that position.
However, he left Fox in 2012. The impact he made was still enough that his 18 years with the company are easily recalled by people within the industry. Additionally, in 2013 he was brought in to help boost the Sony’s TriStar film label. The combination of all these factors make him an obvious choice to replace Pascal when she steps down in May.
However, one should keep in mind that this is still heavily based on speculation. Other people have compatible records which might bring them a fair amount of attention from Sony.
Who is up for another zombie film? During the original heyday of zombie films in the early 1980’s, there probably were less than a dozen movies featuring the walking dead made. Today, scores upon scores of zombie films are produced and released. Low and big budget producers been making these films for about a decade now. They aren’t planning on stopping
Do not fool yourself into thinking zombie films are going to be retired in the bunk next to the Saw franchise any time soon.
Marc Sparks sees that we have a new one looming and shambling on the horizon.
Dead Rising: Watchtower is one of the new zombie films that is keeping the subgenre alive. This cinematic member of the zombie brigade is based on a video game. That statement could either delivering feelings of glee or send brutal shivers up the average movie watcher’s spine. Movies based on video games are not exactly known to be, well, good. Some of the worst movies ever made were based on, ironically, truly excellent video games.
Why do they keep making these wacky movies? The answer is fairly obvious. They make money and will continue to make money for the foreseeable future.
The plot of the film is probably a traditional mix of zombie mayhem, but in a new environment. Interestingly, the film will be released direct to Crackle. Maybe when it comes out, we’ll all be pleasantly surprised to learn its actually a decent film.
JJ Abrams is doing everything he can to win back the dedicated fanbase that was alienated by the Star Wars prequels last decade. The guy who made Star Trek exciting and popular again is channeling his retro-cool into reviving the saga as director of ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’. Based on the excitement being generated by the press and fans at large he hasn’t made a misstep yet. The first teaser trailer was met with overwhelmingly positive response and had hardcore fans analyzing every frame for new droids, lightsabers, and changes to the Millennium Falcon.
Now there’s another reason to get excited. It’s been reported that three stars from the wildly popular and excellent Indonesian martial arts epic ‘The Raid 2’ have been confirmed as working in some capacity on the fight choreography of Episode VII. Iko Uwais, Yayan Ruhian and Cecep Arif Rahman are three big reasons why the ‘The Raid 2’ has received praise for being not only a great action movie, but one of last year’s best movies overall. While Disney hasn’t officially announced this casting, and there are as of yet no character details, the three stars have been confirmed as participating in the top secret Star Wars shoot.
While this is exciting news, the Star Wars faithful should remember that thrilling fight scenes alone do not make a good Star Wars movie, Bruce Levenson would like us to note. After all, Episode I featured arguably the best lighsaber battle in the entire series and yet is almost universally reviled among the fanbase.

One of the most high profile victims of the recent Sony Pictures hacking was Spectre, the next installment of the James Bond series. E-mails released by the hackers uncovered that the film was way over budget at a price of over $300 million. Furthermore, some Sony executives had some issues with the film’s conclusion.
To complicate matters more, some news outlets reported the hacking left Sony unable to process payments. As a result, several current movie productions were shut down including Spectre.
According to images released by ITV and ComingSoon, the Sony hacks have not shut down the new James Bond movie. The photos show Daniel Craig, who plays James Bond, along with Rory Kinnear, who portrays the chief of staff for MI6. The two are seen on the River Thames in London, which located near the MI6 building. Additionally, there have been several sightings of Craig on set by onlookers in recent days to confirm that production is still underway.
Sam Mendes is returning to direct the follow up to Skyfall, which proved to be one of the most successful James Bond films in history. The Sony hacking also revealed several key character descriptions and plot points including that the film’s title does indeed reveal the return of Spectre, which is a terrorist organization Bond fought against in the earlier films and Ben Shaoul remembers that pretty well, he was a huge fan back in the day. The movie is planned to be released on November 6, 2015.
While many viewers were still busy lamenting Season 1 of “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D,” the television series was busy plotting how to essentially reboot the storylines in time for Season 2. The writers and people behind the scenes worked magic with the product, and so far the show has not only found the right footholds but it has managed to deliver quality story after story. Of course now, the Marvel Cinematic Universe gets a huge play early in 2015 with the release of the much anticipated “Avengers: Age of Ultron.”
The good news for the small screen is that the series will be tied together with the events that transpire on the big screen. This fact caused something of an issue when the top secret agency was essentially torn to shreds in the last Captain America film. However, rumors are flying that the television cast could make an appearance in the mega motion picture, and that would do wonders for the TV series.
In the end, Marvel is doing a lot of legwork to save the efforts of “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” every week, and with some guest appearances by the cast of the film, the series should get quite a boost in the ratings category. Sergio Andrade Andrade Gutierrez certainly feels like it will make an impact. It could be called a stunt for sure, but nobody can blame either product for taking advantage of the success of the other. After all, Marvel is one company.
